Youth participation
What is it?
St John Ambulance has defined youth participation
as:
“The involvement of young people in every part of our
organisation, at a level of their choice, in cooperation with other
members.”
This means that young people have a say about
things that happen in their units and groups, and ensures that they
are represented, consulted and listened to when decisions are made
at county and national levels.
We have a Youth Charter that
documents the entitlements, rights and responsibilities that young
people have within St John Ambulance.
Young people have the chance to make St John
Ambulance work in the way they want it to!
Opportunities to get involved with other
organisations are available as well. For example, St John Ambulance
is represented at the British Youth Council by a group of young
volunteers.
Equally, we have young volunteers on a
youth participation lead team
whose mission is to organise events that involve young people, and
get their thoughts and opinions on issues, as well as provide the
structure for ensuring that young people are being involved through
representation and participation. They are also responsible for
organising and planning events to encourage greater youth
participation such as youth assemblies.
