Moving and handling casualties
Recommended for anyone who needs to move or handle casualties.
It examines the potential handling risks in an emergency situation
and demonstrates safer lifting techniques.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for anyone who
needs to lift/handle casualties in an emergency environment and who
have already received training in moving and handling, such as the
St John Ambulance 'Moving and handling
principles' course or similar.
What they will learn?
How to move/handle casualties so that
manual handling risks are reduced to the lowest level.
Course content
- Risk assessment
- Applying moving and handling principles to
dealing with casualties
- Use of carry chairs, carry sheet, Furley
(folding) stretcher, orthopaedic (scoop) stretcher, ambulance
trolley and transporting people in wheelchairs.
Course duration
One day.
Assessment and certification
Continuous assessment by trainer and a St John Ambulance
certificate, valid for 3 years, is issued for attendance.
