Further information on Pen-y-garreg
Heating
Pen-y-garreg is heated by a wood burner in the lounge and an
open fire in the dining room. Users are responsible for bringing
their own supply of coal for the open fire and collecting dead wood
from the grounds of Pen-y-garreg (or bringing their own in) for the
wood burner. Please only burn wood in the wood
burner!
Water
There is no mains water supply
to Pen-y-garreg. However, it takes a comprehensively filtered
supply from the adjacent stream. The water is tested yearly by the
local water authority and meets better water level conditions than
that supplied by most mains water. The last test was carried
out in June 2006.
Shopping
The nearest shopping centre is at Machynlleth
(about seven miles south) where small shops are open on a
Sunday. A larger supermarket can be found in Towyn. The nearest
supplier of coal is a petrol station on the A470 towards
Dolgellau.
Fire
Pen-y-garreg has a fire alarm system fitted
throughout, with all fire doors meeting the requirements of the
local fire service for residential centres.
Grounds
Users are allowed to use the fenced-in grounds
but are asked not to use the fields, since the farmer has cattle
and sheep which are easily frightened. For everyone's comfort and
enjoyment we do not allow animals (including pets) to be brought to
Pen-y-garreg.
Beds
Beds and matresses are supplied. However, users
need to supply their own sleeping bags and/or bedding and
pillows.
Footwear
All users are asked to bring separate indoor
footwear to help keep Pen-y-garreg clean and tidy. This also helps
with the group cleaning at the end of the stay.
Cleaning
All users are expected to clean Pen-y-garreg
before their departure, ready for the next group to use.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in any
part of the building at Pen-y-garreg.
