Our Operations Centre can advise on the exact requirements to cover your event safely. We have over 800 adult volunteers based across the whole of the West Midlands and we provide cover for events small and large. In the West Midlands during 2005 we provided cover at over 1,500 public events.

First aiders

Many our first aiders are trained to the Health and Safety Executive First aid at work standard as a minimum, with many acquiring additional skills. All of our first aiders are tested on their skills every twelve months and receive additional training throughout the year.

Ambulances

St John Ambulance owns the largest ambulance fleet in the UK, and within the West Midlands we have over 30 ambulances equipped to national standards. All our ambulance personnel are trained to the national St John Ambulance patient or emergency transport attendant standards.

Mobile treatment centres

We can either provide vehicle based treatment units, or mobile facilities such as our mobile air shelter.

Cycle response teams

If events cover a large area where vehicle access may be difficult either due to terrain or large crowds, our cycle responders are trained to respond on specially equipped cycles and can provide immediate care until the arrival of additional support.

Mobile command and control facilities

At larger events it becomes necessary to provide an infrastructure in place to specially manage the medical resources at an event. We can do this through the deployment of our special command and control unit where trained operators will co-ordinate resources using a computer dispatch system directly from the event.

Large event cover

We have extensive experience of providing medical, first aid and ambulance cover at many major public events, both within the West Midlands and across the country.

If required, we have the ability to draw upon resources from across the country and we have the expertise of planning and managing large numbers of personnel and resources.

Our role in emergencies

St John Ambulance works together with the statutory services, local authorities, and partner organisations in preparing for and responding to emergencies.

We have volunteers who are ready to provide support in major emergencies including large road-traffic accidents, major incidents, evacuations or floods. We have well rehearsed plans and regularly take place in multi-agency exercises where our volunteers work alongside other organisations at mock incidents.
