Cadets for 10 to 18-year-olds

Cadet life

If you're aged between 10 and 18-years-old you can become one of our Cadets. We have Cadet groups across the county.

Whether your interested in a health-related career, want to help your local community or want to have fun with friends whilst developing yourself, then St John Ambulance Cadets is a great start.

Our updated Cadet programme allows young people to participate in over 100 subjects.

Cadets can work towards our own awards, such as the Grand Prior Award, alongside externally recognised awards like the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Your voice heard

Our youth leaders are fully trained to encourage youth participation. That means as a Cadet you get to decide what subjects you want to learn and have a say in how your group runs.

Why become a Cadet in Sussex?

As a Cadet you will gain life experiences and develop skills that employers need and enhance your CV.

In Sussex all Cadets are encouraged to take part in providing first aid at public events. These include; helping at local sporting, theatre and community events, as well as assisting at major events such as the London to Brighton bike ride, Goodwood and Lewes bonfire celebrations.

St John Ambulance in Sussex provides a range of large events for Cadets to take part in and meet fellow Cadets from across the county. As a Cadet you could take part in competitions and compete nationally, or spend a weekend learning how to lead and train your peers.

Every Cadet also has the opportunity to attend camping and adventurous activities including weekend and week long camps, adventure weekends, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and orienteering and hiking activities.

You could also become our annual Cadet of the Year and compete against other Cadets from all over the UK to represent St John Ambulance as the National Cadet of the Year.
