You will be responsible for what happens at the event so careful planning is of the utmost importance. You are advised to refer to The Event Safety Guide, commonly referred to as 'The Purple Guide', which can be found in your local library.

The health and safety of all persons at an event including spectators, participants, workers and performers must be considered and potential risks identified.

Some considerations are:

  • What will happen in an emergency?
  • Do the staff know what to do?
  • Are there routes for an emergency vehicle to use?
  • Where will the public go?
  • Is an evacuation necessary?
  • What medical facilities are there?
  • Are there good lines of communication?
