Dr Meng Aw-Yong, 41
Medical Adviser

'I have worked for St John Ambulance for six months. I
still continue to work in emergency medicine at Hillingdon hospital, as a Crowd doctor
at QPR
and a Principal Forensic Medical Examiner for the Met Police.
My job includes developing the medical elements of the National
Strategic Plan, assisting in writing the ninth edition of the
first aid manual, reviewing medical alerts, fatal incidents,
approving training and reviewing any medically related
articles, assist in organising the County Medical Officer/County
Nursing Officer forum and reply to any external or internal medical
queries. One of my major goals is to develop the Health
Care Professional policy/induction for training recruitment and
retention.
I enjoy being part of an altruistic organisation with a wide range of activities. It is a privilege to be part of a team that is developing the future of our charity.
Dr Meng Aw-Yong
Medical Adviser
I initially trained to be a surgeon and became
interested in motorcycling and forensic medicine. This initiated
a switch to emergency medicine and I worked for five
years as a track doctor in motorsports, a club doctor at
Fulham, then a crowd doctor at Charlton and QPR football clubs. I
was then invited to be a divisional surgeon for Paddington
division (QPR) in 1997.
I felt at this stage in my career that I was
in the position to offer something back to St John Ambulance and
applied for the post when it became vacant.
I enjoy being part of an altruistic
organisation with a wide range of activities. It is a privilege to
be part of a team that is developing the future of our charity.
St John Ambulance is a unique
organisation that allows all doctors, nurses, paramedics and first
aiders to work as a team. It's also prehospital care in its
original form.'
