Our library
The library’s collection of books and manuscripts on the history
of the Hospitallers is second only to that held by the National
Library of Malta. The St John Ambulance collection of books
and archive is the main source of information about the history of
the organisation in this country.
Before you arrive
Please make an appointment in advance of your visit by
telephoning 020 7324 4005 and asking for the
museum office. Appointments can be made for week days between 10am
and 5pm. The library closes for an hour at lunch time.
Using the library
The library is reference only. A maximum of 3 books may be
consulted at a time, so please allow time for books to be brought
to you. Gloves and pencils are supplied for all books dating from
before 1800. Books post 1850 can be photocopied by museum
staff if this will not cause damage to their spines. Charges
are 20p per A4 sheet and 30p per A3 sheet. Museum staff are also
happy to arrange photography.
It’s free
There is no charge to use the library although donations are
always welcome.
