Support for care home evacuees

18 residents who were evacuated from The Hollies Care Home in
Retford, Nottingham last week have now returned home with
the help of St John Ambulance volunteers.
The residents were moved after fears that a fire at
neighbouring St Alban's Church on London Road would cause the
building to collapse.
St John Ambulance moved residents back to The Hollies
yesterday using two vehicles and five volunteers.
County Councillor Alan Rhodes, Cabinet Member for Adult Services
and Health, said: 'It's great news that these older people have
returned home after what must have been quite a traumatic
experience. I would once again like to praise everyone who was
involved in the evacuation and thank St John Ambulance Service who
have transported most of the residents back today.'
St John Ambulance County Commander, Steve Pimborough said: ‘This
incident demonstrates the ability of our organisation to respond to
any type of incident at a moments notice. The St John heroes of the
hour have demonstrated to their community their true value,
selflessness and professionalism by responding as they did’.
