St John celebrates success in 2007

Dedicated volunteers and staff at St John Ambulance are celebrating their success last year with the launch of the annual review  and annual report for 2007. 

Roger Chatterton, Chief Commander said: '2007 was a year in which we really demonstrated what we are made of. We supported the nation in times of emergency, in flood-hit areas across the country. We made huge steps forward with our Youth work, with the launch of the Youth Strategy at Mansion House and the Young Carers Project, which is but one of our expanding list of care and support programmes enabling us to reach out in local communities.

'A big thank you must go to our volunteers who dedicated a huge 5,600,000 hours of service in 2007. Their hard work and generous contribution of their time has been invaluable.'

The celebrations recognise the endless hours of time and effort that the organisation has given to provide first aid and care to communities throughout the year.

Our annual review, released today, highlights that in 2007:

• Volunteers provided 5,600,000 hours of service
• 124,000 people received first aid care from our volunteers
• 324,000 people were formally trained by us in first aid care and health and safety

Representatives from all over the country are also taking part in a parade from Smithfield Market, London to a service in St Paul's Cathedral to mark St John's Day on Tuesday 24 June.

The London celebrations are echoed by events across the UK as we celebrate our achievements over the past year.
