St John Ambulance steps in to support
services in wake of major incident
Thirteen ambulances and two motorcycles
from St John Ambulance assisted the work of London Ambulance
Service as a fire swept through the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The leading cancer hospital was forced to impose an evacuation
procedure, while 125 firefighters took on the task of tackling the
blaze.
Ambulances were immediately sent to the
scene from London Ambulance Service, with St John Ambulance
stepping in to cover the Service’s more routine demands across the
capital.

A total of 40 volunteers were quickly called
in to provide cover on behalf of St John Ambulance.

Ambulance London (Prince of Wales’s) District, commented: 'Our
crews provided a vital resource to support the London Ambulance
Service.
'We rapidly deployed a total of thirteen
ambulances from various units within the capital and liaised with
emergency services on an on-going basis to ensure that the
appropriate provision.
'30 members St John Ambulance
staffed those vehicles and further personnel was available if
required.'
