Young first aider of the year

Do you know a child who has used vital
first aid to save a life or help an injured person?
St John Ambulance is seeking young people who
have acted quickly, calmly and effectively at a real emergency for
its annual Young first aider of the year awards.
The awards are open to all those under
18-years of age and the closing date for nominations will
be Friday 20 February 2009. The
winners will be invited to a special ceremony in May
2009.
This year’s 14 young medal winners included:
- A 16-year-old boy who at the scene of a car
accident dealt with the treatment of an agitated casualty until the
ambulance arrived
- A 10-year-old boy who gave first aid to his
mother who had collapsed unconscious
St John Ambulance believes it is essential for young people to learn first aid so that they can help anyone who has been injured. The Young First Aider of the Year awards are a wonderful way to celebrate their bravery and quick-thinking.
