Win free first aid materials to teach young
people
St John Ambulance wants to encourage
young people to develop life saving first aid
skills by offering free copies of their dynamic
new training package to teachers and youth leaders who
value these vital skills.
Young first aider, specifically designed for seven to
sixteen-year-olds, combines the latest in medical best practice
with proven teaching methods. Covering 25 first aid topics, it
shows young people how to treat asthma, bites and stings, bleeding,
burns, choking, severe allergic reactions, shock, and bone, joint
and muscle injuries.
The course has been developed by St John
Ambulance to help schools and youth organisations teach these
skills, and also aims to promote personal
development.
We hope that by giving everyone the opportunity to win this package we will be able to reach more young people and equip them with the basics in first aid.

Training Officer, St John Ambulance
Thanks to a donation from the National Grid,
St John Ambulance has a limited number of these new packages to
give away to those who can say in less than 100 words why teaching
first aid skills to young people is important.
Ruth Christmas, Training Officer at St John
Ambulance, said: ‘First aid saves lives and young people can make a
real difference to their community by learning these skills. Our
Young first aider course is fun to learn and gives young people the
confidence they need to cope with an emergency.
‘The package contains everything teachers or
youth leaders need to train young people and is a very flexible
resource; you can cover all or part of the course and it’s suitable
for a range of ages and abilities.
‘We hope that by giving everyone the
opportunity to win this package we will be able to reach more young
people and equip them with the basics in first aid.’
Young first aider has been developed
in consultation with teachers and contains all the
supporting materials required. Schools and youth organisations are
able to build bespoke courses from a set of
flexible resources, including case studies and DVD clips of
real-life scenarios drawn from the experiences of more than 45,000
community-based St John Ambulance volunteers.
A range of worksheets are available to suit
all abilities and the full, assessed course takes only 12-hours to
complete. Certificates are included in the pack to reward everyone
who takes part.
Young first aider supports the delivery of key
stage two and three personal, social and health education and helps
meet the outcomes of the government’s programme, Every Child
Matters, by helping children stay safe and make a positive
contribution.
Schools and youth organisations interested in
winning the training package should download an entry form. The deadline for the
competition is 26 October.
